When should my child visit the dentist?

We are passionate about protecting young smiles from their very first tooth. Your child will usually start to get their milk teeth at around six months old. We recommend that you schedule your child’s first dental examination as soon as they get their first tooth.

Following this, we recommend scheduling appointments between every three and twelve months. This will also let them get used to the noises, smells and surroundings and prepare them for future visits. The earlier these visits start, the more relaxed the children will be. Plaque can start to form on young teeth as soon as they emerge, and it’s important to implement a good oral health routine early – starting with that first tooth.

About Children’s Dentistry

It’s never too early to start and, in fact, earlier is usually better as it allows dentist in Nottingham to advise you on the best at home-care and begin building a positive relationship with your child. A good time to start bringing them along is when their first teeth begin to appear!

Unless your dentist in Long Eaton advises otherwise, every 6 months is recommended, as children’s teeth are softer and much more susceptible to dental decay.

A great way of helping your child look after his or her own teeth is to become their dental hygiene role model! Allow them to see you brushing your teeth twice a day and explain the importance of this habit. Supervise their brushing by letting them brush alongside you.

A great method is to establish a reward chart; rewarding your child each time they brush their teeth. There are also a number of toothbrushes and toothpastes available that may help make brushing a little more fun!

It’s advisable for both adults and children to change their toothbrush every 3 months.
